Most useless billboard ever?

Saw this at the west end of 10th St. in Atlanta “advertising” an HIV drug. In their defense, this is obviously not a serious attempt at communication but an effort to comply with FDA regulation. To me it looks like a big waste of time for everyone involved.bad billboard farbad billboardIMPORTANT UPDATE:A quick glance at U.S. Code of Federal Regulations TITLE 21, CHAPTER I, SUBCHAPTER C, PART 202 (21 CFR 202.1) will reveal that advertisements broadcast through media such as radio, television, or telephone communications systems shall include information relating to the major side effects and contraindications of the advertised drugs in the audio or audio and visual parts of the presentation and–unless adequate provision is made for dissemination of the approved or permitted package labeling in connection with the broadcast presentation–shall contain a brief summary (why the hell are you still reading this?!?) of all necessary information related to side effects and contraindications.Could it be that this board represents an “adequate provision” for a TV or radio spot? Food for thought. If your thoughts are ravenously hungry for information of no value whatsoever.

Ha! I saw one of these on Hill St. north of Memorial, and thought the same thing. I’ve never seen fair balance on a billboard, mostly because people are smart enough to use it for branding, not claims.

[…] In the last few weeks, I’ve seen this billboard around Atlanta that has just flabbergasted me, but I haven’t had my camera with me. Luckily, my friend V.J. had his and posted a pic on his blog. […]

i think its smart advertising, ive seen people pulling over & getting out of their cars, climbing the pole, in order to read the “catchy copy”. it really pulls you in. plus, every time you read it, you catch something new. brilliant. the “verbiage” has some great selling points. i like how it was “wordsmithed”. the “look and feel” is really something special. theres no wasted “white space”. well i gotta go, i have a lot “on my plate”
